Intends U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta making his first visit to China since taking office, in the coming weeks at a time of growing differences in the country on how to resolve the border disputes Beijing.
Said Guenj Yan Cheng, a spokesman for the Chinese Defense Ministry, said Thursday that Panetta will visit China next month, and Panetta's visit comes after the host to his Chinese counterpart General Liang Guanglie in May in Washington.
The Guenj explained that the two armies were holding separate talks on exercises to combat maritime piracy, and vary the United States and China on how to deal with conflicting territorial claims in the South China Sea between China and a number of its neighbors. Washington has criticized the establishment of China's military barracks. China says it wants to deal with disputes bilaterally, rather than in a multilateral manner.
